- Why did you make the bed today?
- I didn't!
- Then how come the doona is perfectly neat and straight and smooth and tucked in at the edges?
We are not bed-making people. I like a neat and tidy house, but daily doona straightening is not my thing. Plus it's a bit tricky - the doona is made to hang over the sides of a regular bed, which doesn't work with our futon.
Hence C's puzzlement over the made bed on Tuesday.
- It must have been the au pair.
J left us in mid-September to go to uni. (*sob sob*) A new au pair started this week.
I meant to tell her yesterday that she really doesn't need to make our bed, but forgot.
So last night when I went to bed, it was again made. And again I was embarrassed, not least because our sheets... well, they need washing. The odour is a little strong.
But it was even worse than that.
There, on the chest of drawers, were my dirty clothes from the day before that I'd flung on the floor and forgotten to take downstairs to the laundry. All neatly folded. Including my dirty socks and undies.
Oh the shame.
