Beauty

Towards the end of August, I start to get a bit apprehensive. Summer is ending. Rain, biting cold wind, grey skies, fog, stuffing kids into layers of clothes - all these lie ahead. They are not my favourite things.

But then October comes, and I am awed by autumn.
Definitley worth it no longer being summer.

Grape picking - by Chloe

Yesterday we did some grape picking and rode on a tractor.

Lukan ate lots of grapes and got to ride in the tractor instead of the trailer and he cried because he didn't like the tractor.

(A proud aunty boast: Chloe typed this by herself. She turned six last month.)

Four years already. Unbelievable.

More pirate party photos on flickr one of these days. Regular posting should start up again soon too...

A message from Téo

Today we're going to Natalie. We have to sit in the car for a vewy vewy long time with no mucking around or fussing. We're staying in a big old farmhouse. Uncle M, Aunty J, C and Z will be there. We're going to see the tower that's bending over. Leaning over.

See you in a week!

Really not necessary

- Why did you make the bed today?

- I didn't!

- Then how come the doona is perfectly neat and straight and smooth and tucked in at the edges?

We are not bed-making people. I like a neat and tidy house, but daily doona straightening is not my thing. Plus it's a bit tricky - the doona is made to hang over the sides of a regular bed, which doesn't work with our futon.

Hence C's puzzlement over the made bed on Tuesday.

- It must have been the au pair.

J left us in mid-September to go to uni. (*sob sob*) A new au pair started this week.

I meant to tell her yesterday that she really doesn't need to make our bed, but forgot.

So last night when I went to bed, it was again made. And again I was embarrassed, not least because our sheets... well, they need washing. The odour is a little strong.

But it was even worse than that.

There, on the chest of drawers, were my dirty clothes from the day before that I'd flung on the floor and forgotten to take downstairs to the laundry. All neatly folded. Including my dirty socks and undies.

Oh the shame.
